Art House Open Day

Saturday 12 December 10am - 4pm at Art House, Old School Community Centre, Totnes Road, South Brent TQ10 9BP

Art House was being planned long before the pandemic hit, and we are determined to show it to you all! We hope you will be able to come along....

Taster sessions and more
As well as short bookable taster workshops from Isabel Coulton (drawing), Imogen Taylor-Noble (ceramics), Louise Scammell (printmaking) and Abby Schaeffer (textiles), we will have free non-bookable demonstrations from Gaynor Williams (bookbinding) and wreath making from Rachel Rafiqi, and more besides.

Bookings are needed for some things but not all
We've had to introduce booking (see below) for the taster workshops so that we can control the numbers in the building at one time due to Covid, but we hope this won't put you off!
You don't need to book a slot to come and take in the atmosphere - come along, watch demos, and you never know; we might have some available workshop slots; we'll have refreshments and music as well as gifts and kits for sale. Some of our tutors have card readers for payments, but bring some cash too if you can.

Bookable taster sessions on offer:

Isabel Coulton

Come and do a Picasso style portrait using a sharpie pen and a touch of watercolour.  It's really easy and fun!  Look at yourself in the mirror, and draw what you see with one continuous line and without looking at your paper!!  Draw 3 and colour them in.  Hey presto - you’ve created a whacky crowd!  One person per session – this is a one-to-one session. £2 per person suggested donation which goes to Art House.

Imogen Taylor-Noble

Come and decorate some exquisite porcelain tree decorations with Imogen! The workshops can accommodate a family group of up to 4 people or groups of 2 friends. This is to enable 1metre+ distancing for those not in a bubble. Children must be part of a family group unless they are over 14 years old. All donations will go directly to Art House; suggested amounts £10 per adult and £5 per child. This provides for up to 10 decorations. Extra decorations will be available to buy at £1 each on the day.

 Mukta (Abby Schaeffer and Inuta)

Abby and Inuta will show you some upcycling skills to make a lovely decorative moth, bird or snowflake, repurposing felted wool fabric that has been locally produced in beautiful natural colours and combining, with fabric from bright Indian silk saris. Come as a family bubble or as 2 friends, children welcome. Suggested donation £5 per person.

Louise Scammell

Make a beautiful printed bird decoration. The workshops can accommodate a family group of up to 4 people or groups of 2 friends. This is to enable 1metre+ distancing for those not in a bubble. Children must be part of a family group unless they are over 14years old. All donations will go to Art House, suggested donation £5 per person. This provides for one bird each. Extra decoration kits will be available to buy on the day.

Covid-friendly
We're planning a low-key socially distanced event which we hope will give a flavour of the possibilities and atmosphere of Art House. We will be well prepared with covered outdoor space, and 2 spacious well ventilated rooms which allow one way circulation and social distancing. We just ask that you please wear a mask, use the hand gel provided and observe social distancing, and stick with your bubbles.

We hope to see you there!
